In June 2026, UN Tourism, the World Tourism Organization, launched the "European Wine Tourism Innovation Challenge"; an international opportunity to support and enhance wineries' tourism and hospitality activities with experiential offerings that are eco-sustainable and digitally integrated.

Wine tourism has become an important driver of sustainable and ecological development for rural communities, cultural and environmental enhancement, biodiversity protection, and scientific and technological innovation. It no longer simply involves visits to wineries, but offers immersive vineyard experiences, food pairings, wellness, digital storytelling, and experiential travel. It is precisely these experiences that have redefined wine destinations and, consequently, the way travelers connect with the region, local communities, and cultural heritage.

According to the Global Wine Tourism Report 2025, wine tourism has become an increasingly strategic activity for both wineries and destinations. Most wineries view tourism as a profitable and resilient activity, capable of generating significant revenue while strengthening local economies and cultural identity.
