Sustainable business growth with simpler environmental legislation

The new package of measures (Omnibus Package VIII), published by the European Commission on December 10, 2025, aims to amend environmental rules to reduce administrative burdens on businesses, while maintaining the EU's ambitious environmental and human health protection objectives.

The package will accelerate and streamline authorization procedures for all projects, especially those in strategic sectors such as strategic digital projects and critical raw materials projects, thus facilitating the transition to a clean and digital economy in the Union.

Simplifying regulations and reducing administrative burdens is essential to achieving environmental objectives and strengthening the EU's competitiveness.

The package of measures consists of six legislative proposals addressing the following European standards:

• Directive 2008/98/EC on waste management;
• Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 on batteries and waste batteries;
