EU Climate-Energy Strategy: Global Vision, Clean-Tech Target and Carbon Pricing

The European Union has presented an international strategy for “shaping a global clean and resilient transition”, through which the Commission and the High Representative clarify the EU’s offer to the world: protect strategic interests through diplomacy, promote fair standards by supporting partners in developing their own, and address new threats that affect European and global security. The vision adds a clear external vector to the Clean Industrial Deal, with the industrial objective of bringing Europe’s clean-technology manufacturing capacity to 15% of the global market, while at the same time improving industrial competitiveness in line with the new framework for competitiveness. On the energy front, renewables remain at the centre of the transition: in 2024 they covered 46.9% of EU electricity, marking a turning point for independence and energy security compared to fossil imports. The vision aims to turn this advantage into industrial leadership, making the EU a global supplier of mitigation and adaptation solutions, open to cooperation and business in a rules-based international order.
