Further extension of social security benefits in support of companies

Social safety net benefits for companies is governed in Italy by Legislative Decree No. 148/2015; the decree has the aim to ensure the necessary (and rightful) assistance to companies in crisis or engaged in reorganization processes.

During the years immediately following its entry into force, the economic and social context in Italy changed rapidly, becoming quite different from the one in which the decree was conceived.

Indeed, the pandemic period and the frequent crises, have imposed the necessity to introduce adjustments to the mentioned law with the primary aim of preserving the national productive and economic fabric.

For example, the temporary reintroduction of extraordinary subsidised furlough (s.c. CIGS) for cessation of company's activity, has to be mentioned; a period of CIGS in favor of companies operating in an area of complex industrial crisis (Article 27 of Legislative Decree No. 83/2012 converted, with modifications, into Law No. 134/2012) in order to face restructuring processes and situations of particular economic difficulty (art. 44, paragraph 11-bis of the aforementioned legislative decree) or, still and always over the mentioned time limits, a maximum period of 26 weeks applicable to companies in situations of particular economic difficulty that had exhausted the time limits for the intervention of the ordinarily social ...
