With Legislative Decree 125/2024, Italy implemented the European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) 2022/2464/EU, which introduces sustainability reporting. Large companies were the first to have to comply with this obligation and from 1 January 2026 it will also affect micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. Companies, in implementation of the provisions of art. 2 of Legislative Decree 125/2024, will have to include in a specific section of the management report the information necessary to understand the impact of the company on sustainability issues, as well as the information necessary to understand how sustainability issues affect the performance of the company, its results and its situation. To this end, the EFRAG (European Financial Reporting Advisory Group) has published the “VSME Digital Template” (Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for non-listed SMEs Digital Template). It is a practical and accessible tool that helps non-listed SMEs on a voluntary basis to apply the VSME.
